I want to keep on challenging with the power of art, to build a society where everyone is happy to live.

While I was studying in the U.S., I was really into making things, and these days couldn’t have been happier.

It is a joy to create something! Not only that, art makes it possible for people, whichever country they are from, whether or not they have physical handicap, what kind of political or religious belief they might have; to easily connect with each other, and share its beauty and passion! “I can’t keep this great joy to myself. I’ve got to let other people know this joy too! I want to share it with everyone!” I thought from the bottom of my heart. This was when I put my very first step into the world of art-related activities.

Around the same time, I also met people such as ex-soldier in Viet Nam, victims of racial discrimination, gays and physically handicapped, and found that art could be a tool for rehabilitation of their heart, and also hope, and I now realize that I want to spread this idea to other places.

Upon my return to Japan, while working for galleries, museums, etc., I again observed the challenges that come with child-rearing, handicapped children, etc. Again, I’ve come to hope to use art as a tool to solve such challenges or at least use it as a first step in that direction. After I established my own NPO,

I focused most of my energy on improving the environment inside medical facilities where children are hospitalized, and also Hospital Art per se which directly affects the care of a child’s heart. And, these activities led to my various support programs using art after the Great East Japan Earthquake.

To “make” is to give life to something out of nothing, and to give life to something is to take one step forward. To “make” is rehabilitation of your heart and the process to get along with it. To “make” is, at times, to pray, to save someone, feel joy, to wish for something --- a process of subliming your heart. In other words, to “make” something is to “live” perse.

As I have been doing, I will keep on visiting places which need such psychological care, going out to see people with whom I can share such joy, and I’d like to be even more active in a society which is strengthened by barrier-free art.

What surprises and wonders the world is filled with!

How great human beings are, creating something out of nothing!

How lovable our peer human beings are, living their lives to the fullest!

Every time I get these feelings and want to share them with other people, I have produced various exhibits.
